The world is facing the transformative effects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is heralding innovations at an unprecedented, exponential scale on all fronts through the convergence of diverse areas and industries based on intelligent information technologies such as DNA (data-network-AI).

The Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (PCFIR) was created to review and coordinate policies related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which cannot be handled solely by a single ministry in this revolutionary period, and promote relevant advances. As a privateled consultative body, the PCFIR focuses on gathering the opinions of various groups and developing feasible policies beyond the limitations of the public sector.

With our role expanding this year as a national data policy control tower, we will strive to bolster the data-based digital economy. We will provide full support for policies in relation to data, AI, digital healthcare, and other fields of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and lay a solid institutional and social foundation in preparation for the upcoming changes through close public-private cooperation. We will also take measures to facilitate the engagement of the private sector that is the driving force of innovation and to promote the participation of all ministries to help all areas of our society benefit from the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution presents both challenges and opportunities for all countries. The key to rising above others in the future will be how adeptly and effectively we drive and embrace radical innovations and revolutionary changes unseen in the past. If we remain prepared by capitalizing on our strengths and experiences, we will be able to turn uncertainties into opportunities.
