President Moon Jae-in has officially received confirmation concerning U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s cancelled trip to North Korea and has discussed future measures with relevant government officials.
Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom said during a press briefing on Aug. 26 that in spite of Pompeo’s cancellation of the trip, “North Korea and the U.S. both have strong will to carry on talks. Therefore, the inter-Korean summit will hopefully act as a breakthrough between the two countries.”
Spokesperson Kim added that, “President Moon's role as a facilitator and mediator to help expand the range of mutual understanding between the U.S. and North Korea has become even greater now," and that he would continue to push ahead with the inter-Korean summit scheduled for September in Pyeongyang.
