President Moon Jae-in met with U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres at the headquarters of the United Nations. Meeting for the fourth time since the President’s inauguration, they have consistently communicated with each other on such issues as peace between the two Koreas and denuclearization.
President Moon explained the outcome of the inter-Korean summit held last week in Pyeongyang and expressed his appreciation to the United Nations for having consistently provided support whenever the situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula shifted significantly. The President requested continued assistance from the United Nations and the international community.
Secretary-General Guterres congratulated President Moon on the success of the third inter-Korean summit and gave high marks to the President’s efforts to solve problems connected to the Korean Peninsula. President Moon also thanked the Secretary-General for the United Nations’ efforts on pending international issues, adding that its role would continue to grow in importance.
