President Moon Jae-in and His Majesty the King of the Belgians, who is making a state visit to Korea, held a summit at Cheong Wa Dae this morning. They discussed a wide range of agenda items, including how to promote friendship and strengthen substantive cooperation between the two countries.
In his opening remarks, President Moon said that Belgium's national motto "Unity makes strength" is a spirit that definitely resonates with the Korean people who yearn for peaceful unification. The President went on to give high marks to bilateral friendship and cooperation that have continued since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1901.
The King said he was grateful to President Moon for his role in promoting peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and around the world. Noting that his delegation consisted of people from diverse fields, the King said he looked forward to discussions in various areas, including 5G, artificial intelligence and smart cities.
President Moon said at the summit, “The visit by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium and her economic delegation in 2017 contributed to expanding economic cooperation between our two countries, resulting in the value of bilateral trade rising as much as 17 percent.” The President expressed his delight by adding that the King’s visit has brought as much expectation.
