The President Meets with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence President Moon Jae-in met with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence from 10:36 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. today (local time).
This is their fourth meeting since they last met five months ago in Singapore. President Moon has met with Vice President Pence three times.
President Moon noted the journey to achieve the complete denuclearization and permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula began in earnest at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in February last year, where the Vice President attended leading the U.S. delegation, and he asked for the Vice President’s continued cooperation.
President Moon assessed that the U.S.-DPRK Hanoi summit is part of a process toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and emphasized the need for early resumption of the U.S.-DPRK dialogue by maintaining the momentum of the Hanoi summit.
Vice President Pence expressed his gratitude for the recent conclusion of the Special Measures Agreement and the ratification of the revised KORUS FTA by the National Assembly. He also explained that the U.S. maintains a positive stance toward U.S.-DPRK denuclearization negotiations and that the door is open for dialogue. The Vice President added that he is hopeful about the resumption of the U.S.-DPRK talks.
President Moon mentioned that he would do all it takes for the complete denuclearization and establishment of peace regime on the Korean Peninsula, noting that he would continue to forge close cooperative relations between the ROK and the U.S. in this process.
