President Moon Jae-in met with Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP) David Beasley at Cheong Wa Dae for approximately an hour from 5:30 p.m. today.
Executive Director Beasley briefed President Moon concerning a Joint Rapid Food Security Assessment report on North Korea’s recent food situation by the WFP and the Food and Agriculture Organization. The WFP Executive Director voiced concern about current daily food rations in North Korea being at severely low levels.
Executive Director Beasley pointed out an urgent need to provide humanitarian assistance for the most vulnerable in the North. President Moon expressed his agreement with that opinion.
President Moon mentioned to the WFP Executive Director the fact that U.S. President Donald Trump had expressed his full support for the Republic of Korea’s humanitarian food supply to North Korea. Executive Director Beasley shared various ways to provide food aid to the North.
They also agreed to work closely together going forward in regard to humanitarian food aid to North Korea.
President Moon said the ROK would never forget the help it had received from the WFP during its time of need. He went on to say that the ROK would make active contributions not only to humanitarian assistance for the North but also in other areas where the international community could use its support
