President Moon and First Lady Kim met with HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark
President Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook met with HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark for 30 minutes from 11 a.m. today at Cheong Wa Dae, discussing the ways to further promote bilateral relations and exchange on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties establishment.
President Moon welcomed HRH The Crown Prince and HRH The Crown Princess who are on their visit to Korea leading a large group of economic delegates, marking the 60th anniversary of the two sides forging diplomatic ties. Importantly, President Moon expressed his gratitude to HRH Crown Princess Mary for actively taking part in a variety of commemorative events as the patron of the Cultural Year 2019 between Korea and Denmark.
HRH Crown Prince Frederik said that he made his previous visits to Korea as an IOC member, but today, on his 9th visit to Seoul, he came with a large group of delegation including the representatives from the 45 leading Danish businesses. The Crown Prince added that he hopes to further strengthen the bilateral relations.
President Moon expressed high regard for the two sides’ proactive coordination in response to climate change and green economic cooperation through the Korea-led Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G), the public-private initiative led by the Danish Government.
HRH Crown Prince Frederik said that he is pleased to attend the commemorative event held in Korea marking the “2019 Korea-Denmark Cultural Year,” and that the cultural event will serve as an opportunity to further enhance bilateral exchange, cooperation and mutual understanding.
President Moon highlighted that Denmark not only dispatched the hospital ship Jutlandia to offer medical treatment of numerous injured during the Korean War, but also helped to establish a national hospital in Korea, making significant contribution to development of Korea’s public medical service.
President Moon asked for Denmark’s continued support for building permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula going forward, noting that HRH Crown Prince Frederik, who is scheduled to make his second visit to the DMZ following his first in 2012, will be able to see a changed DMZ from the withdrawal of guard posts, removal of landmines and excavation of remains, which were all done as part of inter-Korean peace-building projects.
Reaffirming his support for the peace-building initiative, HRH Crown Prince Frederik highly assessed the Korean Government’s efforts and achievements with regard to establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula.
