President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold a summit on the morning of July 7 on the margins of the G20 Summit to be held in Hamburg, Germany.
It will be their first summit since President Moon took office. The summit was arranged after the two sides had shared an understanding of the necessity for holding one at an earliest possible date during their telephone conversations on May 11 and 30 as well as reciprocal visits by special envoys.
The two leaders are expected to have extensive discussions on how to promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in a wide range of sectors, including close communication at the top level. They are also anticipated to discuss matters of mutual interest, including trilateral cooperation among Korea, Japan and China and close coordination between Korea and Japan as well as among Korea, the United States and Japan in regard to North Korea and its nuclear development.
