President Moon Jae-in has been named as one of the 2017 honorees of the annual Global Citizen Awards conferred by the Atlantic Council.
The Atlantic Council, a renowned American think tank, has selected those individuals who have contributed to the realization of global citizenship and progress in democracy and honored them with the Global Citizen Awards since 2010.
World-renowned figures in public life who have previously received this award include former U.S. Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and John Kerry, Managing Director of the IMF Christine Lagarde, President of Mexico Enrique Pena Nieto and Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Globally-known artist honorees were producer Quincy Jones, jazz musician Wynton Marsalis and conductor Seiji Ozawa.
President Moon was selected for his contribution to helping the candlelight revolution in the Republic of Korea promote global citizenship and democracy. Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and Chinese pianist Lang Lang are the two other recipients.
President Moon will participate in the award ceremony when he visits New York to attend the U.N. General Assembly next week.
