2018 Inter-Korean Summit Press Corps
President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un hoped that their Inter-Korean Summit would lead to good results, in a pre-summit conversation at the Peace House in Panmunjeom on April 27.
The North Korean leader said, “Today, I’m here with a mindset that I would fire a flare to kick-start a new history of peace, prosperity and better inter-Korean ties. I hope that we will have heart-to-heart conversations on issues of mutual interest, and bring about good results today.”
“I don’t want to see the previous history that we’ve seen at past summits repeat itself, going back to square one without any results. Instead, hopefully, both sides will look forward to the future, holding hand-in-hand and marching together toward the future,” Kim said. “Let’s talk in an open-minded, sincere and candid manner,” he added.
In response, President Moon said, “As it`s celebrating our meeting, the weather is so nice today. Spring is here on the Korean Peninsula.”
“The moment Kim crossed the Military Demarcation Line for the first time in history has turned Panmunjeom from being a symbol of division into one of peace. I’d like to thank you for your brave decision to make this summit happen,” he said.
President Moon continued to say that, “I hope that we have broad, frank talks today so that we can reach an agreement and produce what the peoples of our countries and the whole world dearly desire to see: peace.”
