Cheong Wa Dae announced on May 5 that President Moon Jae-in will visit Washington on May 22 for a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom said in a written press briefing that the two leaders will mainly be discussing preparations for a successful North Korea-U.S. summit.
“At the summit, President Moon and President Trump will reaffirm the staunch Korea-U.S. alliance and the deep friendship between the two countries,” said Kim.
“Following the phone call they had on April 28, President Moon and President Trump will continue their close cooperation for the development of the Korean Peninsula after the Inter-Korean Summit that was held on April 27,” Kim said.
The White House also announced President Moon’s visit on May 4. “President Donald J. Trump will welcome President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea to the White House on May 22, 2018,” it said. “This third summit between the two leaders affirms the enduring strength of the United States–Republic of Korea alliance and the deep friendship between our two countries.”
“President Trump and President Moon will continue their close coordination on developments regarding the Korean Peninsula following the April 28 Inter-Korean Summit,” it continued. “The two leaders will also discuss President Trump’s upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.”
