President Moon Jae-in, in Japan on May 9 to attend a trilateral summit with Japanese and Chinese leaders, will also hold a separate meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to discuss the state of affairs on the Korean Peninsula.
Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom on May 8 sent text messages to correspondents saying that, “President Moon Jae-in will meet Premier Li to discuss ways to develop Korea-China ties and the state of affairs on the Korean Peninsula, including results of the Inter-Korean Summit.”
Originally, President Moon planned to return to Seoul after the trilateral summit, followed by a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The bilateral meeting with Premier Li was scheduled after preliminary discussions with the Beijing government. It is the third time for President Moon Jae-in to meet the Chinese premier since Moon's inauguration. He met Premier Li in November 2017 when he visited the Philippines to attend the ASEAN Summit, and the following December when he made a state visit to Beijing.
