President Moon Jae-in had a 40-minute phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on June 11, one day before the NK-U.S. summit in Singapore, to discuss ways to make the upcoming meeting a success.
Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom announced during a regular briefing that the two leaders talked over the phone for 40 minutes, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:10 p.m.
“Tomorrow, the historic NK-U.S. summit will finally be held, all thanks to President Trump’s brave decision and strong leadership,” said President Moon. “The people of Korea wish whole-heartedly that President Trump has miraculous success at the summit.”
“If the NK-U.S. summit is a success, it will be a great present for the whole world, as well as a nice gift for President Trump’s birthday which falls on June 14,” said President Moon, according to the spokesperson.
President Trump shared the discussions that have been going on between the U.S. and the North and talked about ways to make the upcoming summit fruitful.
“After the summit in Singapore, I will send U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Seoul to explain the outcome of the meeting and to discuss Korea-U.S. cooperation on realizing the agreements made during the summit with President Moon,” said President Trump.
