President Moon Jae-in and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met at Cheong Wa Dae on June 14 to discuss the Singapore Summit. 

They discussed cooperation and follow-up measures between Seoul and Washington to implement the agreement reached by leaders from North Korea and the U.S.

President Moon hailed the latest meeting, saying, “Thanks to the summit, all people around the globe can now be relieved from threats of war, nuclear and long-range missiles.” 

“The two countries established a historic achievement that allowed the world, not to mention the Korean Peninsula, to make a step forward into an era of peace and co-prosperity, while getting out of the era of war and hostility,” said President Moon.

Secretary Pompeo praised President Moon’s role in this regard, saying, “This is all attributed to your role, which brought about the success of the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit.”

“Without such endeavors, we would never have had the foundation for a successful summit between Chairman Kim Jong Un and President Trump,” said the U.S. secretary of state. 

“If Seoul and the U.S. work together closely, it would bring ultimate peace on the Korean Peninsula,” he added. 

Secretary Pompeo also emphasized Seoul-Washington cooperation.

“An ultimate, important step has been made at the Singapore Summit, and I strongly believe that the peoples of both countries can bring better results through cooperation,” said Pompeo.
