President Moon Jae-in held a phone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen on June 1 to discuss ways to boost bilateral relations.
President Moon told Prime Minister Rasmussen that, “I`m well aware of your Korea visit last October and I appreciate your special feelings for Korea, as you`ve visited here 11 times.”
“I hope that the action plan signed by Korea and Denmark during your visit last year can be fully executed so that both countries can cooperate in a mutually beneficial manner and expand bilateral cooperation,” said President Moon.
President Moon told his Danish counterpart that, “Regarding the North Korean nuclear issue, I would like to thank Denmark as you have been actively supporting the Republic of Korean government."
“We will work toward the denuclearization of North Korea through systematic, comprehensive approaches in a bold and fundamental manner, so we hope Denmark can support us,” said President Moon.
Prime Minister Rasmussen responded by saying, “Please believe us and our strong support.”
“Four weeks ago, I had a chance to have a long conversation with Chinese leaders,” said the Danish leader. “They had a common understanding that pressure needs to be applied to Pyongyang so that it can come to the table for talks, and I believe the EU will be with us,” he added.
The two leaders also discussed cooperation measures in energy and green growth areas.
President Moon said, “My administration is working toward the goals of expanding the amount of non-nuclear and renewable energy we use, and developing environmentally friendly, low carbon future energy as a prime policy goal. I would like to have close cooperation with Denmark as you are the leader in these sectors.”
“I believe the establishment of the Partnering for the Green Global Goals (P4G) will contribute to the effective fulfillment of global agendas, such as the Post-2020 Climate Change regime after the Paris Agreement, and sustainable development goals,” said President Moon.
“I actively support Denmark’s efforts toward this goal and Korea will take part in it,” he added.
