Rights for visually challenged person
Dear President.
One day, something that should not have happened. The market staff refused to let blind people who brought their guide dogs to the market to buy groceries. Korean law stipulates that blind people can accompany guide dogs when using restaurants of transportation. Nevertheless, some people resist the inability of blind people with guide dogs to enter places. Blind people must be allowed to use the facilities with guide dogs.
Guide dogs are the eyes of the visually challenged person. Guide dogs serve to guide the way instead of blind people and to walk at their pace. In the Yonhap News, the reporter interviewed a person who is blind, and the person said “it is a sad situation that blind people cannot go anywhere with a guide dog like their eyes” including him who was interviewed, many blind people still feel uncomfortable living in 2020.
Why should their rights be so ignored? Taking guide dogs into the facility is the right of the visually impaired as specified in the law. We can enjoy our daily life. However, they cannot spend the day comfortably. One person wants to eat lunch in restaurant, but the clerk said he cannot come in the restaurant because of guide dog’s fur. Some blind people report a store that rejected blind people to get legitimate rights.
Opponents may say dogs will lose a lot of furs when moving, so it will not be good for restaurant hygiene. However, guide dogs are educated from an early age to avoid harming the people around them. So, guide dogs are an important role for blind people that they can be blind people’s eyes. Therefore, people should regard the blind people and guide dogs as one person.
Mr. President, please change the law that can give blind people’s happy life. Restaurants and facility operators should allow the blind and guide dogs to enter. I hope the President will help the people who are supposed to live with us regain their comfortable lives. Thank you for reading my argument.
